Job DescriptionOverview of the role The Payroll Accounting Manager position is responsible for performing accounting functions for the payroll and benefits activities within the company, as well as the oversight of the payroll accountants.
This role is responsible for ensuring that all journal entry activity is accurately recorded to the general ledger and all payroll related balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly.
This role also functions as the liaison for payroll accounting related questions with our various business partners throughout the organization and requires a person who has the upmost discretion for handling sensitive and confidential information.
The right candidate for this role can communicate effectively both via written and verbal medium with internal customers at all levels of the business.
This role requires flexibility in work hours due to the interaction with the corporate headquarters in San Francisco.
Responsibilities Manage the payroll accounting process for all corporate, retail store, distribution center, customer care center US and Global payroll transactions, in a timely manner and consistent with established accounting service levels.
Manage and create monthly journal entries that are assigned to properly reflect each month's payroll transactions.
This includes managing the payroll interfaces from the payroll systems and assuring that all suspense items are cleared.
Review and reconcile payroll accounting data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Reconcile detailed data for corporate general ledger reporting purposes.
Position requires hands-on detailed work and analysis.
Support internal and external audits by performing process walkthroughs, providing audit deliverables and analyses.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley and WSI company policy.
Effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with all payroll partners and 3rd party payroll providers.
Manage special projects in support of various corporate accounting initiatives.
Review and manage the payroll accounting function by proposing enhancement/improvement of accounting procedures.
Propose viable solutions to address payroll accounting problems/issues.
Accountable for management of Payroll Accountants including setting their objectives, providing guidance on a day to day basis and working on their development Build strong relationships with business partners, auditors, executive management, Payroll Operations/HR, Corporate Accounting and Technology.
Criteria Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business or equivalent work experience.
5 plus years of accounting experience Strong attention to detail Ability to work independently or as part of a small team Previous payroll experience or willingness to learn payroll processing functions Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset required.
Ability to manage large amounts of data.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Manage multiple priorities and yet consistently meet deadlines.
Prior people management experience required.
Interact with confidential, sensitive material in a discrete manner, while maintaining absolute discretion is required.
Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with UKG Payroll and Time Tracking software (i.
e.
KRONOS, TimeTracker) and Oracle EPR/HCM is desired but not required Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critically important.
